Sadly we have not been able to update the website or facebook since we have been back in Barbuda. Over three months without electricity, we are still using expensive generators that cost too much to run for more than a few hours and gas is limited and often rationed. The workload of clearing up is too much. The internet is limited, slow and time consuming at the Fisheries building and often there is no signal. Most people have no phone signal either.
Homes are gradually being repaired but the pace is slow. NODS are not giving any information to anyone about their procedures - if they even have any - and the contracted Antiguan builders are not being paid and are running out of materials weekly. We are still waiting (Cat 1 - least damage) patiently for our materials, and most people are still waiting for repairs to their homes. UNDP have just announced they are repairing Cat 1 and 2 homes with the aid from China.
The army are still 'in charge' and our spineless ALP Councillors are running around in Antigua doing everything they are told to do by the Government, and saying nothing while we are called 'imbeciles' and 'squatters' by our so-called leaders. This is a sad state of affairs for our proud and independent island. But they will have to answer for their decisions later and they had better read the constitution of Council because it is supposed to be set up (in Barbuda) this month.
So we can't update the website until things are better and we have rebuilt our lives and businesses. Visitors are welcome and are coming and we have a great ferry service and daily flights. There is immense love AROUND THE WORLD for Barbuda so Barbudans, try to raise more money for yourselves and for our island. We will be back.
